THE DIRIC SUN
On April 24th, Astreum Ito, along with Sabian Kerberbur and Slaevian Sabar, all announced their resignation from their office. Many other officials also resigned, with the only jobs remaining filled after the resignation being DHS director, filled by Victor Crosswell, and Minister of Health Edward Vasher.
Astreum and his cabinet said they would continue to perform their roles until their replacements are chosen, and afterwards will end their terms in the Blue House. When questioned by reporters, they all had similar responses. This is the interview between reporter Elena Callaway and President Ito.
Elena: “So, President Ito, why did you decide to resign, and why did your cabinet resign with you?”
Ito: “Well, you see, I’ve been president for 20 years, and I’ve formed deep bonds with the people in my cabinet and around it. I just feel I can’t remain just and unbiased concerning the current events in this country. I had a good run as president, but now is when the people need to use their democratic rights to elect a new representative”
Elena: “But sir, you were just recently re-elected, why resign now?”
Ito: “I was re-elected out of fear of change, but now I am in a position I should not be in. I’m in between choosing a friend and choosing what’s good for this country, and my hesitation shows I’m not fit to govern this nation any longer.”
After his interview, President Ito released a statement declaring a new election period, due to his Vice President also stepping down. The new candidates are Nathaniel Cross, the candidate who was running against Astreum in the recent election, and Elias Thornton, one of Astreum’s close supporters.
Nathaniel Cross, who is also a major player in the stock market, is running on supporting businesses, and forming strong trade deals with other nations.
Elias Thornton, on the other hand, is running on rebuilding the nation and establishing welfare programs for those still in need after Rilicon’s recent re-establishment.
Also, for the first time in Riliconian history, the vote of addition to the “Statue House” is called.
In Riliconian history, if over 70% of the voting population feels the president and his cabinet lead the country prosperously, then a statue of said president is added to the Statue House, and a plaque with the name of everyone on their cabinet is placed under the statue. Due to Astreum’s unique long standing presidential status, no president has come before him.
Voting ends on May 1st, and as of yet, over half of the population has already voted. Out of those who voted, 85% feel Astreum led the nation in a fit manner, and some even left paragraphs speaking on how well Astreum governed. In a show of honor, both Elias Thornton and Nathaniel Cross publicly voted “Yes” to add Astreum to the Statue House.
Overall, the reporters here at the Diric Sun cast our own vote, and 95% of the people believe Astreum Ito was a fitting president.
I had the honor of personally talking to Astreum Ito. He was respectful, kind, and knew his way around an interview and debate. I’m glad I had the honor of meeting him.
In Respect of Astreum Ito, His Contributions to the DRR Will Not Be Forgotten.
