The Party for Universal Rights
The Party for Universal Rights (URP) is the premier political group of the Democratic Nations of United Jacaria. The URP was created after the adoption of The Morals of Subjugation; or, Today’s Society Tomorrow, written by Dr. Marton Williamsburg, by the Unified Rights Party in 2265, leading to most experts placing Williamsburg as the founder of the party.
The URP’s main policy, like its name suggests, is the expansion of rights and freedoms wherever possible while still upholding the founding principles of United Jacaria. Current goals include net-zero emissions, rehauling the healthcare, education, welfare, and transportation systems, and the expansion of global diplomatic relations.
Because of the URP’s roots in one of the most influential parties in Jacarian history, the organization consistently reaches the 60% maximum in the Houses of Legislature each election season. Due to the party’s size and influence, several prominent internal factions have emerged, including:
The Conservatives: The smallest of the URP’s internal factions, mainly made up of Royalists and Libertarians. Some members of other parties float here over time to grow their influence.
The Centrists: A significant faction within the URP that holds a combination of beliefs from other internal factions. This is where the bulk of the Libertarians reside.
The Moderates: The largest of the URP’s internal factions, made mostly of Democratic-Socialists, Moderate Communists, Greens, etc. Despite its name, this faction is significantly more left-leaning than their global counterparts.
The Radicals: A somewhat significant faction within the URP that mostly consists of Communists, Anarchists, and the Stewards.
Other Significant Parties
Despite the seeming hegemony of the URP, and the likelihood that, without the upper limit on seats, the party would hold a super majority, many other parties exist within the Jacarian political system. In fact, for most legislation to pass the Houses, an 80% majority is commonly accepted as the needed threshold.
The Leading Parties: (74%, 713 seats)
The Party for Universal Rights (URP): Moderate-Left
The Liberal-Socialist Party (LSP): Moderate-Left
The Nation Party for Green Endeavors (GENP): Moderate-Left
Commonly Supported by: (15%, 145 seats)
The United Socialist Coalition (CUS): Moderate-Left
The Social-Libertarians (SocLib): Center-Left

Party for Universal Rights Internal Memo
From Michael Silvus, Minister of State
To party members, elected officials, and observers alike,
Amidst the crisis currently plaguing the URP, I will temporarily be stepping into Williamsburg’s position within the party until such time as party elections can take place.
Again, this position is temporary, and will only have the power to take the necessary steps towards electing the next Chairperson of the URP.
For the time being, we will continue our campaign as normal. Primaries for the Party Chairperson and Lord High Justice will take place as scheduled. We will not be deterred by a resignation, no matter who it may be. We will miss Williamsburg, but his absence is not the end of this party. It is simply the passing of the torch to a new leader that will unite both the people and the Houses.
Good day.
~Silvus
