The morning shift at a @Nordstjerne Nordstjerne outpost begins normally. At approximately 06:17, the sentries notice movement beyond the perimeter. At first, it appears to be a small group of Afflicted. Then more emerge. And more. By 06:24, approximately one hundred Afflicted have gathered within sight of the outpost.

They do not charge. They do not scream. They do not spread out.

They simply stand there. Watching.

For several minutes, nothing happens. Then one of them steps forward. It walks to a patch of wildflowers growing near the edge of the Wild Zone. It crouches and picks one. It returns to the group. Another Afflicted steps forward. It picks a flower. Then another. Then another. Soon, all one hundred are carrying flowers.

There is no obvious leader. No commands are heard. Yet the behaviour is remarkably consistent.

At 06:46, the entire group begins moving toward the outpost. They stop approximately fifty metres from the perimeter.

One by one, they approach. Each Afflicted places its flower on the ground. Then retreats. The next approaches. Places its flower beside the others.

Retreats.

The process continues until all one hundred flowers have been placed together. Then they return to their positions. And stop. They do not leave. They do not attack. They do not attempt to breach the perimeter. They simply stand facing the outpost. One hundred Afflicted. One hundred flowers. Waiting. Minutes pass. Then an hour. Nothing changes.

At 07:31, one of the Afflicted tilts its head slightly. At 07:32, another does the same. Then a third. Within seconds, all one hundred have their heads tilted at almost exactly the same angle. They remain like that. Still watching the outpost. No movement. No sound. No explanation.

Do not engage.

Under no circumstances are you to engage the Afflicted unless doing so in active self defense.

At approximately 0700, one hundred Afflicted exhibited the abnormal behaviors seen in Novara, this time placing flowers along the perimeter of the Zone-04 Checkpoint.

At this time, research personnel are en-route to the Checkpoint to conduct tests regarding the behavior. We ask that the site remains undisturbed at all costs short of loss-of-life.

PRELIMINARY EXAMINATION REPORT

Classification: INTERNAL

Following the completion of the initial examination at Checkpoint Zone-04, research personnel have confirmed that the flowers deposited by the Afflicted were not collected randomly.

The one hundred specimens represent twenty-three distinct plant species, several of which do not naturally occur within the immediate vicinity of the checkpoint.

No footprints, disturbed vegetation, or other evidence has been identified suggesting that the Afflicted travelled significant distances to obtain them.

More concerning is the arrangement.

When reconstructed from aerial photography, the flowers appear to have been placed according to a repeating spatial pattern. The significance of this pattern remains unknown.

At approximately 07:32, all one hundred Afflicted simultaneously altered the angle of their heads.

Initial analysis indicates that they were not looking toward the checkpoint.

They were looking above it.

All subjects appeared to orient themselves toward the same bearing, corresponding approximately to azimuth 217°.

No aircraft were observed in the area at the time. No other immediate aerial activity has been reported.

Further investigation is underway.

Personnel are reminded that the Afflicted are to remain undisturbed.

Do not approach the flowers. Do not remove them from the site.

Effective immediately

All airspace above designated Afflicted Corridors is hereby upgraded from its previous classification of Level 2 (Use Caution) to Level 5 (Universal No Fly). This designation applies to all aircraft, including civilian airlines, military vehicles, and foreign aircraft. This shall remain in place until EAO-2 has concluded.

Furthermore, nearby satellite dishes, telescopes, and radio arrays currently operated by or funded by the state are to be redirected to the bearing noted as having attracted the Afflicted’s attention during EAO-2. The above-listed devices may be subject to exceptions depending on their current purpose.

Additionally, the various species of flowers analyzed at the EAO-2 site are to be further investigated for possible connections among native habitats, uses, chemical makeup, etc. This research is to be considered of the utmost importance.

Finally, the pattern discovered within the assembly of the flowers is to be analyzed by the JCB’s Department of Cryptology for further connections or patterns that may uncover more about EAO-2.

EAO-2 INVESTIGATION OUTCOME

The decision to redirect Nordstjerne’s observation and communications infrastructure toward the reported bearing produces an unexpected result.

Within hours, multiple independent instruments begin recording brief, synchronized anomalies along azimuth 217°. The readings do not correspond to aircraft, known atmospheric phenomena, or any conventional transmission source.

More significantly, the timing appears to correlate with the behavior observed at Checkpoint Zone-04.

When the instruments record the anomaly, several Afflicted within the designated corridors are observed becoming active at approximately the same moment.

The flower arrangement also attracts renewed attention. Further analysis confirms that the pattern is deliberate and cannot reasonably be attributed to random placement.

However, researchers are unable to determine what the pattern represents or what the Afflicted were attempting to indicate.

For the first time, Nordstjerne has obtained evidence suggesting that the behavior observed during EAO-2 may be connected to something beyond the immediate containment zone.

The investigation is now considered a priority.

EAO-2 remains active.

Ladies, gentlemen, and those in between of the Defense Front,

We are being confronted with what might possibly be one of the most threatening situations since the LNS Outbreak.

Right now, the Afflicted are being influenced by forces outside of both our control and knowledge. Similar events are taking place worldwide.

With this in mind, ourselves and Prjme Minister Bergman came up with a single, unified response.

At this time, the Nordstjerne Defense Front is to assemble for special drill operations at their designated location. Furthermore, all agents posted along the Afflicted Corridor are to stand on high-alert, and should be prepared to defend their homeland should the situation escalate.

The observation of current locations-of-interest is to proceed as previously ordered. Instruments used in the endeavor have been expanded to include all nearby devices. Satellites in orbit near LoIs are to be used for study as well.

We are alert and ready. The homeland will not fall.
