
Opening of the Electoral Season — Senate Seats & Office of the Speaker
Pursuant to Article VI of the Constitution of the United Commonwealth, the commencement of elections to fill all seats of the Commonwealth Senate and the Office of the Speaker of the Senate is hereby declared.
Under Article IV, Section 3(b) of the Constitution, the Senate consists of no fewer than three (3) Senators. All three (3) Senate seats, along with the Office of the Speaker of the Senate under Article IV, Section 4, are currently vacant.
Offices Open for Election
The following offices are declared open for election:
- Three (3) Senate Seats
- One (1) Office of the Speaker of the Senate
Any Commonwealth citizen may seek election to one of the above offices by submitting a public declaration of candidacy during the Nomination Phase, in accordance with Article II, Section 2(b) of the Constitution.
A candidate may stand for Senator or for Speaker of the Senate, but not for both simultaneously.
Election Timeline
Nomination Phase
Campaign and Public Question Period
Duration: Two (2) Days
Candidates may present their policies, answer questions from Commonwealth citizens, participate in debates, and outline their vision for the office they seek.
Voting Phase
Certification of Results Upon the close of voting, the results shall be certified, and successful candidates shall immediately assume their offices in accordance with Article VI of the Constitution. Voting confirmation may be conducted randomly via UCSN email or NationStates telegram reception.
Candidate Conduct Requirements
To ensure these elections remain a genuine and transparent exercise of democratic participation, all candidates are expected to observe the following:
NO ROLEPLAY. Regional elections are a matter of real citizen participation, not roleplay. Candidacy declarations, platforms, and campaign posts must be written as genuine statements of intent and policy, not in-character fiction.
LIMITED USE OF AI TECH: The use of AI to generate candidacy declarations, platforms, or campaign content should be kept to a minimum. Posts should reflect the candidate’s own voice and positions.
Address fellow Commerans directly, in first person. Candidates are expected to speak to their fellow citizens as themselves, in first person, rather than through a third-party or in-character voice.
Candidates who do not observe these expectations may be asked to revise their posts before their candidacy is recognized.
Additional Information
Commonwealth citizens are invited to submit their declarations of candidacy in the comments of this thread. Please clearly indicate whether you are seeking election as a Senator or as the Speaker of the United Commonwealth Senate.
Following the conclusion of the Nomination Phase, candidated are expected to upload and post their own Campaign and Public Question Period. During this period, each candidate is required to submit their Agenda and Goals for the office they seek, and to hold their own Q&A Session or Townhall, during which they will field questions from Commonwealth citizens and engage in respectful debate.
A detailed guide outlining the electoral procedures, voting method, and election schedule will be published prior to the commencement of the Voting Phase.
All Commonwealth citizens are strongly encouraged to participate. A vibrant and competitive election strengthens the democratic institutions of the United Commonwealth and ensures broad representation within the Senate.
