Jernean Government Investing in Our Future Prime Minister Johansson recently announced to the Jernean Parliament his plans to expand the capital’s financial district with around €$400.000.000 in funding. While it is currently unknown how this funding will be allocated, the stock market has already jumped in anticipation, with the Guhert-Whilson rising almost 100 points overnight. New National Park Service in Development The Jacarian Realm is known for its parks and tourism. United Jacaria alone spends 15.5 trillion JKR on its natural environment, and it’s no wonder why. Billions of people flock to these parks each year to see the vast expanse of forests and mountains, the beautiful caverns filled with crystal formations and bat habitats. Taking inspiration from this, the Jernean Parliament has approved a bill to establish its own national park service. We at the Sentinel are excited to see what they designate as the first national park! Technological Industry Expanding As trade with the Motherland becomes more economic with the growth of the Jacarian portal industry, the hardware manufacturing sector has seen explosive growth. The possibility of establishing mining operations in the desolate north has been proposed, and several large corporations, including Klingor EMC, have been investigating the mineral density of the soil and rock beneath the permafrost. While the rare earth metals haven’t been found in high enough quantities to justify extraction as of yet, a deposit of highly concentrated uranium was recently discovered in Upper Norway. United Jacaria Captures Høj Valuta A joint strike force made up of the Jacarian Federal Guard and a specialized battalion of IIC agents stormed the capital of B&O Industries yesterday and were able to free William Baxter and John Orwell from captivity. The maneuver resulted in the suicide of General Rohnson, leader of the military coup that overthrew the old Industrian government. Full reclamation of the Industries is expected to take place within the following weeks.

Jernean Government Deploys Intelligence Teams Into Nytland

Since the acquisition of Nytland and the subsequent removal of local warlods from military power, the Colony has allocated agents from around the nation to discover, track, and terminate groups of the Afflicted so that constructions crews may begin construction on local infrastructure.

Afflicted Begin Movement Through Designated Corridor

Since the designation of a protected corridor for the Afflicted to travel through without threatening the lives of the citizens nearby and the evacuation of said areas, thousands of the Afflicted, both recorded and previously unknown, have flooded the streets of coastline cities as they continue their strange movements east. The first Afflicted to cross the border have crossed about halfway through Nordstjerne, and within several days, the bulk of the horde are expected to reach the Baltic Sea.

In a shocking move from the United States, President Sterling’s government has just placed enforceable restrictions on cultural apparel in public spaces.

While this alone could signal a downward spiral into a culturally oppressive dystopia for the UST, there’s more. Now, visa holders of different cultural views from “baseline” society may face revocation and deportation should they fail to adopt Thessaran standards.

Diversity is Strength

Throughout the thousands of years that humanity has existed on this Earth, we have fundamentally disagreed with each other. This disagreement has led to popular movements using cultural cleansing as an excuse to commit horrible crimes and extinguish millions of lives around the world.

No more.

We live in a world today where democracy reigns supreme, where the collective is not solely the majority. Where we can politely disagree without violence, and where cultures can come together and accept one another.

A purge on cultural practices begins with public display. No government has the right to restrict how people choose to present themselves. Especially when it comes to religious apparel.

When one takes a look at any national culture, they see a boiling pot of people coming together to make something wonderful. The humble hamburger, a staple dish hundreds of years old, was a mixture of Old German steak and American cooking. Hot dogs, and countless other dishes, we’re much the same.

Everywhere we look, we see the influence of global commerce. Nothing is truly pure, and that’s by design. The only thing a purge of differences will do is restrict innovation and allow for government oversight on the very essence of human life. Actions such as this belong in fiction, not in real life.

We’ll end today with a poem made famous by one of the most devastating events in human history, the Holocaust. The poem is based off words by Lutheran pastor Martin Niemöller after World War II ended. It is a key feature of many memorials globally.

Trademark Merger Approved

We of The Stockholm Sentinel have officially announced a merger between ourselves and The Oslo Gazette, The Gothenburg Times, and the Copenhagen Trader in what will be one of the largest mergers in Jernean history.

The resulting cooperation, named The Nordstjerne Sentinel, will be the forefront news agency in the nation, and among the largest in the world. Editor-in-Chief Rudolph Whitberg of The Stockholm Sentinel will be transitioned into the same position in the new organization, with the Chiefs being made into an executive council to aid in administration efforts.

The Jernean Parliament has greenlit the merger, which is set to take place in the coming weeks.

Tollins: Good morning, Nordstjerne. It’s 09:00 and a beautiful day outside, with afternoon highs in the lower 20s around the nation. I’m your host, Peter Tollins, here with my co-host, Linnea Sjoberg, in order to hit the ground running with the Sentinel’s first live broadcast.

Sjoberg: Thank you, Peter. It’s a pleasure to be here.

Tollins: Now, let’s get right into our international headlines for today. We begin with an update on the growing geopolitical crisis with Southeast Asia and Thessara. After the UST announced it would be increasing its naval presence in the area, Jernean embassies located in major coastal cities within Guangzhou and Javnia reported incoming projectiles behaving similarly to ballistic missiles, causing the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to initiate a Full Integration Order. For those of you unaware, Full Integration Orders, when initiated, declare all embassies representing Nordstjerne within foreign nations as autonomous land under Jernean command, entirely separate from foreign politics.

Sjoberg: While the danger posed by the incident would certainly justify the measures enacted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, many officials are worried that the move could be seen as a challenge against the international community, especially after ongoing diplomatic conflict between Nordstjerne and many regional powers.

Tollins: The Prime Minister has yet to comment on the situation. However, our correspondent within Parliament has noted that the legislature is leaning less and less towards isolationism in favor of global activism, which Ms. Bergman is likely to echo.

Sjoberg: Regarding current Court cases, the Rilicon-based corporation InCom has recently come under fire from the Courts, with the latter suspending all Jernean aid until an investigation can commence into the firm’s alleged responsibility regarding the humanitarian crisis in New Valdoria. As of yet, InCom remains uncooperative, and several Justices are pushing for international backing from Nordstjerne’s partners.

Tollins: In other news, citizens around the world mourn the loss of life at the Tierra Santa construction site after several Dechikelian workers sadly perished. While the exact details are unknown, the Holy Emperor of Deidadios recently released a statement honoring the workers’ sacrifice and calling for their remembrance.

Sjoberg: Elsewhere, tensions are rising quickly in what experts are now calling “the biggest blunder in decades” as Opposition leader George Hanson (RFN) illegally published a statement originally denied by Parliament. The statement condemned both Thessara and Guangzhou for the ongoing conflict and continued with a list of responses. It is currently unknown how Hanson bypassed diplomatic channels to publish the statement, but the incident led Parliament to publish a more formal address. Mr. Hanson is now under internal investigation and may face removal should his district initiate a by-election.

Tollins: Speaking on the topic of Thessara, the United States has recently passed a law banning the use of cultural clothing in public spaces in order to “enforce strict adherence to traditional Thessaran social norms”. Of course, many in the international community have expressed a variety of opinions on this, with the Prime Minister herself stating that “…it’s an issue of equality and democracy that has to be addressed. Why was it needed? Was there a threat?”

Sjoberg: It is rather shocking that the UST of all places would impose such restrictions, given their history.

Tollins: Indeed. Now, on to our multiversal headlines. Negotiations with the United Federations have ended with Lord High Williamsburg being evacuated via airplane after many American officials threatened his life. The Houses of Legislature have declared a Full-Stop Emergency, recalling all diplomats currently stationed within the UFA to Jacarian soil. We expect that the situation will continue to degrade, given the UFA’s history, but peace might still be an option.

Sjoberg: Now, of course, war with the United Federations would pit the Norwegian Alliance against WHINDO in what could be one of the most destructive wars in history. As such, the Houses are treating the issue with as much respect as possible given the situation.

Tollins: In related news, B&O Industries has announced that it will cut off all trade deals with the UFA, citing “a need for global stability amid trying times”. To make up for the significant loss in state revenue, trade routes have been opened between the Industries and Oceania.

Sjoberg: Councilperson Williamsburg-1 announced last night that the Council would be resuming research into the Nalum, including the search for other super-nations throughout the multiverse. Williamsburg-0 gave similar remarks, also stating that “It is the goal of this Realm that we find those like us and make a partner of them.”

It was dusk.

Williamsburg could see the last faint rays of sunshine disappear beyond the horizon from his office chair, a faint reminder of his own situation.

If he stood up and focused his gaze, he could pick out the individual buildings that made up the Copenhagen skyline, the bell towers and flats that the capital was known for. Bicycles lined the thin streets, some padlocked to racks while others leaned against buildings, pedestrians weaving around the occasional car.

It was his little empire.

But it was not his, not remotely close. And he knew and embraced this fact. The people in the streets, the children playing in the parks as tired parents watched. The babies yet unborn, the grandparents doting their grandchildren. This was their empire, their slice of glory amongst a world tumbling into chaos.

It ruined him to think that he would have to leave. But Williamsburg knew that he must. He had been transported throughout the multiverse for the past 6 years, returning to children that hardly knew who he was and a nation that was now the pinnacle of the world. There was so much he needed to return to, so many people he needed to be there for, and he simply couldn’t do that while simultaneously holding one of the most powerful positions on the globe.

Beyond that, his very life had been threatened during what he had thought to be routine negotiations. Even now, the thought of discussing with those Americans again made his head spin. He simply could not go on.

It was here, on the balcony overlooking the capital of United Jacaria, that he made his decision. No longer would he be in the room where it happened. No longer would he partake in the rat-race that was geopolitics.

It was finally the time to take back his life.

The Nordstjerne Sentinel: Future of United Jacaria Uncertain as Williamsburg Declines Re-election, Public in Chaos

Sjoberg: As the Jacarian election season creeps ever closer, the matter of the Lord High Justice has become more and more forefront on our minds. As the combined Head of State and Government for United Jacaria, the position is amongst the most prestigious in the multiverse, and has historically been filled by pioneering figures that have brought the Democratic Nations to where they are today. And more than a decade, it has been held by Marton R. Williamsburg, founder of the Party for Universal Rights and a key figure in the shaping of Jacarian politik.

Tollins: However, in an address during the URP’s monthly caucus, Williamsburg announced that he will not be running for re-election, citing the recent Americo-Jacarian Diplomatic Summit and personal family matters as main reasons. We have Johan Quincy, a Jacarian political scientist from the University of Copenhagen, here to break down the story.

Quincy: Yes, of course, when this announcement was aired, hysteria ensued amongst supporters and enemies alike. There is a large fraction of voters, as much as 20%, know nothing else other than what has been dubbed as Martonian politics, and an announcement such as this could not come at a worse time amid heightened political tensions. Myself and many other experts worry that without the leadership of Williamsburg, the URP will find itself in a power vacuum unlike that which has never before been seen.

Tollins: Who do you think will step in to fill this vacuum, if anyone?

Quincy: While I would hope someone such as Michael Silvus or Ethan Underwood would fill in the shadow left by Williamsburg, given the current situation, I would expect nothing less than Archduke McMiller, given his experience and history.

Sjoberg: Well, I suppose the only way to know for sure is to simply wait it out. In the meantime, do you have anything else you’d like to comment on?

Quincy: Yes, I do. To the international viewers of this program, a new era has begun, one in a steady progression towards war. Not just any old war, but one between multiversal powers that could be waged throughout reality. Be prepared, and be wary.

The Nordstjerne Sentinel: Treasury Secures Bullion Reserves as Geopolitical Stage Advances

Tollins: Good morning, Nordstjerne. We start the day off with light snowfall across most of the nation until around 1400 today, with temperatures wavering in the negative tens until around 1900, where they’ll drop further. A winter advisory has been issued by the Department of Meteorology this week, with snow storms possible later this month. It has been advised by the Ministry of State that civilians remain in heated areas as much as possible until the advisory has been lifted.

Sjoberg: To start off with our major national headlines, the Ministry of the Treasury recently announced its approval of a high-security bullion reserve compound in South Lappland. The establishment of such a compound, now designated MoT Site-03, has been toyed with dozens of times over the past several years, with officials pushing for the project with renewed vigor after recent cyber attacks against Thessara. While Nordstjerne has been off the gold standard since the founding of the Treasury, the nation’s bullion reserves serve as a key strategic item, and the construction of Site-03 will only serve to further Nordstjerne’s influence on the global economy.

Tollins: During the initial announcement of the facility’s establishment, Minister Holbert of the Treasury stated that the compound’s location was chosen due to the ‘extreme temperatures and sparse population’ of the site, making it ideal for a below-ground vault. Despite this, experts have raised concerns as to how the Treasury will go about building the above-ground portion of the compounds on the permafrost, with one engineer warning that building in the area will melt the ice, resulting in unstable foundations. The Treasury has yet to respond.

Sjoberg: In other news, NordEnergy, a municipal utility company based in Stockholm, has begun construction on a series of three distinct windfarms in the Baltic Sea. The project is expected to be completed by the close of next year, and will create around 1200 construction jobs and 550 long-term engineering and technical positions during its use. Not only is this project the next step for Nordstjerne’s green energy sector, it serves as a reminder that many of the nation’s largest cities are growing rapidly independent of external organizations and the federal government.

Tollins: Now, to our international news, the Thessaran Congress has officially declared war on the Afflicted and various unincorporated groups outside of Tejas amid a growing armed crisis within the Tejan border. Federal forces are being mobilized to stave off the invasion of the dead and armed alike, with artillery groups striking key sites of interest.

Sjoberg: In response to the declaration, the Tejan government has threatened the federal government with force from its militia, a move that has angered many in the federal capital. President Sterling returned the threat in kind, stating that firing upon federal forces would result in a declaration of war against Tejas itself. The hostilities between the two governments highlight just how strained the two’s relationship truly is, and many are worried that it will only continue to escalate. For now, however, federal forces remain trained on the Afflicted surging across the border.

Tollins: As we wrap up this morning’s report, we take a look at Southeast Asia, where Javnia has erupted into a fierce debate over proposed changes to its government structure. The United People’s Coalition, or UPC, is a prominent party within the nation’s administrative body that recently proposed the Constitutional Reform Act in an attempt to overhaul the nation’s government into what the party views as a people-led nation.

Sjoberg: While Javnia’s citizens are split on the matter, many Jernean officials and diplomatic advisors have praised the proposal, with most agreeing that the concentration of power into one royal family is an outdated system with many flaws. One expert, a professor of geopolitics and government at the University of Uppsala, stated that the act ‘has many major issues that need to be addressed, such as the role that the king will fill should it be passed and the concessions it will have to make in order to be accepted, but it otherwise holds together quite well.’ The same expert went on to proclaim that ‘any society with a sufficiently intelligent populace will only ever lean further towards democracy, and this proposal proves this fact.’ As of now, it is unknown whether the act has a strong enough foundation to be approved by the Javnian Parliament.
