SICHUAN PROVINCE — The National Security Directorate (NSD) has confirmed the successful conclusion of a major cross-border operation targeting an organized Afflicted cell operating within the Wildlands, beyond Guangzhou’s northern frontier.

The operation was authorized by Zayd Al-Hakim, Minister of State and Security and Acting Minister of Sovereign Defense, while Carmilla Sinclair attends international discussions in Javnia.

Vigilant formations deployed from Sichuan Province advanced beyond Guangzhou’s recognized national borders, conducting a coordinated raid against the identified Afflicted concentration.

According to the NSD, the cell has been completely eradicated as an organized operational threat.

However, not every Afflicted encountered was killed.

A substantial number were apprehended alive and are now being prepared for transportation to a classified National Security Directorate installation known as Shēnyuān Site (深渊).

SHĒNYUĀN SITE — WHAT IS THE NSD HIDING?

The Directorate has acknowledged the existence of Shēnyuān Site, whose name translates to The Abyss, but has provided remarkably little information concerning its operations.

Its location, capacity, research personnel and internal security arrangements remain classified.

According to official statements, the captured Afflicted will undergo controlled scientific examination intended to improve Guangzhou’s understanding of the phenomenon.

But the announcement raises several questions.

Why transport potentially dangerous Afflicted to a specialized classified facility rather than maintain containment near the northern frontier?

Does Shēnyuān possess research capabilities unavailable elsewhere in Guangzhou?

And perhaps most importantly, what does the NSD hope to discover by studying living Afflicted?

MCC cannot independently verify the facility’s capabilities or the precise nature of its research.

Possible areas of investigation could include biological characteristics, behavioral changes, methods of transmission and potential treatments or countermeasures. These remain possibilities rather than confirmed elements of the research program.

ZAYD AL-HAKIM ASSUMES COMMAND

With Carmilla Sinclair representing Guangzhou abroad, Zayd Al-Hakim has temporarily assumed ministerial oversight of the NSD under the established succession structure.

His authorization of the Wildlands operation represents a significant exercise of that acting authority.

WHY WAS A CROSS-BORDER RAID NECESSARY?

The NSD states that the Afflicted cell’s principal concentration was located beyond Guangzhou’s northern border, making an operation confined to Sichuan Province insufficient to eliminate the threat.

Vigilant units subsequently crossed into the Wildlands, engaged the cell and secured surviving Afflicted.

Officials maintain that the operation was limited to the identified threat and did not involve territorial occupation or permanent military expansion.

With the raid complete, participating units have begun returning to their established positions along the northern frontier.

A SCIENTIFIC BREAKTHROUGH — OR A NEW SECURITY RISK?

The capture of living Afflicted could represent an important opportunity for Guangzhou’s scientific and security institutions.

Research conducted under controlled conditions may provide information that cannot be obtained through battlefield observation alone.

Yet transporting and housing a substantial number of Afflicted also introduces questions concerning containment, research oversight and emergency preparedness.

The Directorate has offered assurances that the captives will remain under strict security supervision, but it has not publicly disclosed the standards governing their confinement.

MCC has not established whether independent civilian scientists or external oversight personnel will be permitted access to the research program.

THE QUESTIONS REMAIN

The northern Wildlands operation has concluded, and the NSD considers its primary military objective accomplished.

For the Afflicted apprehended during the raid, however, their transfer to Shēnyuān Site marks the beginning of an entirely different chapter.

The Imperial Government has not announced whether findings from the research program will eventually be released to the public or shared with international scientific institutions.

For now, Shēnyuān Site remains one of the National Security Directorate’s most closely guarded research installations.

MCC will continue seeking information concerning the facility, the captured Afflicted and the implications of the Directorate’s expanding research efforts.
